Artist Statement

For a few years now we have been firing a large wood-fired kiln that we built in Earl's Cove in collaboration with two other potters. Working in shifts, we fire continuously for 52 hours, allowing ash from the fire to land and melt on the pots, forming glaze and adding interest to the surface. By our choice of kiln design, clay, glaze, shape, firing schedule, wood, and other variables, we attempt to provide the conditions for the fire to do something wonderful with the pots.

In addition to the wood-fired pottery, I make raku-fired ocarinas (musical instruments) as well as decorative raku bowls.

We welcome you to visit our studio/gallery by the sea.
